GTA 6 review embargo

GTA 6 Review Embargo Leak Points to November 18 (Rumor)

A leak says the GTA 6 review embargo lifts on Wednesday, November 18, one day before the game launches. That’s the rumor, and it’s worth saying plainly: Rockstar has not announced an embargo date, and the schedule comes from a forum post, not from the company.

Still, it’s the most specific timing anyone has put on GTA 6 reviews, and it matches how Rockstar has handled past launches. Below is what the leak says, who it came from, what the rumored times look like in your time zone, and what would confirm or sink it.

What the leak actually says

On October 23, a ResetEra poster known as BlackBate claimed the review embargo ends on November 18. Notebookcheck’s report says Metacritic scores should go live at around 12:01 to 1:01 PM CET, which is 6 to 7 AM EST.

The same leak adds a twist. Some sites and YouTube channels may have to wait until 12:01 AM EST on November 19, which is launch day. Reports differ on who falls into which group, and it’s unclear whether written reviews, video reviews, gameplay footage and scores all follow the same schedule.

Who is behind it

Two sources matter here, and neither is Rockstar:

  • BlackBate. A ResetEra user who some outlets describe as connected to Insider Gaming and credit with accurate predictions on other titles. That’s a track record, not proof.
  • NateTheHate. An insider widely considered reliable. He said on ResetEra that review copies were due to reach media by the end of October. That’s also unconfirmed.

One more wrinkle. A mid-October Insider Gaming article claiming reviews would arrive before November 19 was later deleted. We can’t say why, and we wouldn’t read much into it, but it’s a reason to treat the whole chain with care.

What Rockstar has confirmed

Very little. Rockstar’s official GTA 6 page confirms the November 19 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It doesn’t mention review copies or an embargo. A PC version hasn’t been announced either.

So the honest summary is this: reviews before launch are widely expected, a day is the most specific claim, and nothing is official.

The rumored time in your time zone

If the leak is right and the embargo lifts at 6:00 AM EST on November 18, here’s the same moment around the world:

PlaceLocal time on November 18
Los Angeles3:00 AM
New York6:00 AM
London11:00 AM
Paris and Berlin12:00 PM
India4:30 PM
Tokyo8:00 PM
Sydney10:00 PM

The later window, 12:01 AM EST on November 19, is 5:01 AM UTC. Notebookcheck frames the first window as 12:01 to 1:01 PM CET, which lines up with the table above.

An interesting detail about launch timing

Here’s an observation, not a claim from the leak. Six AM EST on November 18 is midnight on November 19 in New Zealand. If games unlock at midnight local time, the first regions would be starting at about the moment reviews appear. Another outlet speculated the timing could even point to a simultaneous launch. That’s guesswork. Our release time countdown by region explains the usual midnight rollout and what’s actually confirmed.

Why a day before launch?

Notebookcheck says the date and time match past Rockstar launches. A one-day gap gives buyers a window to read verdicts before playing, though it also leaves little time for a pre-order decision to change. Some observers also guess Rockstar wants written reviews to land first so critics settle on a shared verdict before video creators publish. We can’t verify any of that.

Publishers that expect a weak reception often push reviews later. The opposite signal, a pre-launch embargo, is mildly reassuring but not proof of quality.

When will reviewers get the game?

Another piece of the story is timing. NateTheHate’s claim is that codes arrive by the end of October. Other reports say the digital PS5 and Xbox codes either hadn’t been sent or would go out the week of October 26 or in early November. If the embargo date is correct, reviewers could have between two and three weeks with the game.

That timeline is plausible, and it’s still a rumor. Rockstar hasn’t mentioned review copies.

What would confirm or sink the rumor

Watch for:

  1. An official statement. Rockstar or Take-Two announcing embargo details.
  2. Outlet announcements. Major sites sometimes post “review coming November 18” notices.
  3. A Metacritic or OpenCritic page. These typically appear shortly before scores go live.
  4. Another leak that disagrees. A different date would weaken BlackBate’s claim.

If none of those appear, the safest assumption is simply that reviews come at some point before or at launch.

What to do if you’re deciding whether to buy

If you want to wait for reviews, the leak suggests you might get one day. Our pre-order guide covers editions, prices and the November 20 bonus deadline, which sits after the rumored review date. Pre-load opens November 12, as we explain in our GTA 6 pre-load date guide.

Before you cancel or commit to anything, check the refund policy of the store you bought from. We haven’t verified those policies for GTA 6.

How to read early reviews well

If reviews do arrive on November 18, a few habits will help you get more from them:

  1. Check how long the reviewer played. A game this large takes a long time to see properly, and some outlets label early write-ups as “in progress.”
  2. Note which console they used. Performance on a base PS5 or an Xbox Series S can differ from a stronger machine, and reviewers don’t always test the same hardware.
  3. Compare several outlets. A single score tells you little. A spread of opinions tells you more.
  4. Watch for spoilers. Reviewers usually avoid them, but social posts around launch don’t.
  5. Remember it’s a day-one build. Patches may change things later, a point we also made in the trailer downgrade debate.

Terms you’ll see

  • Embargo: a date and time before which outlets can’t publish reviews.
  • Review copy: a free copy sent to critics before launch.
  • Metacritic and OpenCritic: sites that collect review scores into averages.
  • Tiered embargo: different outlets getting different publication times.

The bottom line

The GTA 6 review embargo rumor points to November 18, with a possible launch-day restriction for some outlets. It comes from a leaked schedule, and Rockstar hasn’t announced anything. Treat it as a reasonable guess, not a plan, and keep an eye out for official word. We’ll update this page as soon as an embargo is confirmed.
