GTA 6 Price: $79.99 Is Official, Not a Leak

GTA 6 price $79.99

If you’ve seen a headline about a GTA 6 price leak bringing “relief” at $79.99, here’s the catch: it isn’t a leak. Rockstar announced that price itself when pre-orders opened on June 25, and the Standard Edition has sat at $79.99 on every major storefront since.

The “relief” part is real, though. Before the announcement, a lot of fans were bracing for a base game that cost $100 or more. This article explains where those fears came from, what Rockstar actually charges, and which prices are still unconfirmed.

The confirmed GTA 6 prices

EditionUS priceAustraliaUK (retailer listings)
Standard Edition$79.99AU$129.95£69.99
Ultimate Edition$99.99AU$159.95£89.99

TechRadar’s pricing report covered the US and Australian figures from the official announcement. UK prices come from retailer listings, so check your own store for the final local price.

Both editions cover PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Our pre-order guide breaks down what each one includes and the November 20 bonus deadline.

So why do some sites call it a leak?

Probably two reasons, and this is our read. One is timing: some outlets repeated pricing from retailer pages without making clear that it matched the official announcement. The other is that “leak” and “relief” are words that get clicks. Headlines such as “GTA 6 price leak offers relief” blur the line between what Rockstar announced and what was rumored.

A simple test helps. If Rockstar or Take-Two published the price and major retailers list it, it’s official. If a price appears only in a single retailer slip or a social post, it’s a rumor. $79.99 passes the first test.

Where the price fears came from

The panic had a real source. Earlier in 2026, several leaks pointed higher than what Rockstar ended up charging:

SourceClaimed Standard priceOutcome
A French retailer listing (FNAC)€89.99Not an official figure
A leak posted on X, via autoevolution$89.99, with a $199.99 collector tierContested at the time, wrong
A UK edition leak, via Tom’s Guide£69.99 Standard, £89.99 Deluxe, £109.99 PremiumStandard and Deluxe match UK listings
Fan speculation$100 or moreNever confirmed

One reason the $100 rumor spread is that some leaks listed premium tiers that cost around that much, which people misread as the base price. The Ultimate Edition at $99.99 turned out to be the closest match to that fear.

Is $79.99 expensive?

Compared with most big releases, yes. TechRadar noted that most AAA games sit at $69.99, and that this could start a trend of $79.99 games. Nintendo had already moved in that direction, and VICE pointed to Mario Kart World at the same price.

Against the fears, no. A base game under $80 felt restrained next to a $100 or $150 rumor. That is the relief the headlines are describing, and it’s relative. Plenty of players still think $79.99 is steep, and it’s reasonable to disagree.

How this compares with past GTA launches

GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both launched at $59.99 on their original console releases. At $79.99, GTA 6 costs $20 more, an increase of about a third. That’s a large jump over one generation, though it also follows a general move in the industry toward higher base prices. Whether the game justifies it is a matter of opinion, and nobody can answer that before launch.

How to spot a real GTA 6 price leak versus an official price

Before you share or believe a number, run it through these checks:

  1. Look for Rockstar’s own page. The official store lists the Standard and Ultimate editions and their prices.
  2. Compare major storefronts. The PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and big retailers all list the same US price. A number that only one page shows is a warning sign.
  3. Check the date. Prices reported before June 25 were rumors. Anything afterward should match the official figures.
  4. Be wary of third-party sellers. Inflated resale listings have already appeared around this release, and some retailer stock has sold out. Prices much higher than $79.99 or $99.99 aren’t official.
  5. Count the editions. If a page lists three or four editions, a collector’s edition or a premium tier, it’s repeating old rumors. Rockstar announced two.

What people are actually buying

The most striking pricing story isn’t the base game. It’s that buyers are picking the pricier edition. Analyst firm Sensor Tower found that roughly 89 percent of pre-orders were for the Ultimate Edition, and Take-Two’s CEO has said the most avid fans are the ones pre-ordering first. That should be read with caution, since pre-orders skew toward dedicated players and early numbers don’t predict final sales.

Rockstar says the Ultimate Edition adds in-game items such as vehicles, cosmetics and exclusive locations. The core story is the same in both versions. Our physical copy guide covers the one catch: the boxed edition is Standard only, and there’s no physical Ultimate Edition.

What’s still unconfirmed

A few prices and details remain open:

  • A collector’s edition. Rockstar announced only Standard and Ultimate. A rumored $200 collector’s price from one retailer leak has no official backing.
  • The PC price. There’s no PC version announced, so no PC price exists. We estimate the likely outcome in our guide to GTA 6 PC pricing.
  • Regional prices outside the US, UK and Australia. Check your own store, since conversion and taxes vary.
  • Future discounts. Rockstar hasn’t announced any sales.

Terms you’ll see

  • MSRP or list price: the official price before taxes and any sale.
  • Standard Edition: the base game with the full campaign.
  • Ultimate Edition: the base game plus extra cosmetic and vehicle content.
  • Price leak: an unofficial report of a price before it’s announced. After June 25, it’s no longer accurate for the editions above.
  • Price reveal or price confirmation: an official announcement.

Should you buy now or wait?

If you plan to play at launch, there’s no price reason to wait. Prices haven’t changed, and pre-ordering before November 20 gets you the Vintage Vice City Pack. If cost is the main issue, the useful questions are these: do you need it on day one, and is the Ultimate Edition’s extra content worth $20 to you?

Waiting for a sale is a gamble. Rockstar’s games hold their prices for a long time after release, and a deep discount in the first months would be a surprise. That’s a prediction, not a promise.

The bottom line

The $79.99 GTA 6 Standard Edition price is official, so calling it a leak gets the story wrong. The relief is understandable, because the rumors were higher, but the facts are simple: $79.99 for Standard, $99.99 for Ultimate, with UK and Australian prices listed above. Everything else is a rumor until Rockstar says otherwise. We’ll update this page if prices or editions change.
