Xbox Cloud Playtime Pricing: Cost of 100 Hours of GTA 6

Microsoft’s new Xbox Cloud Playtime pricing makes one number easy to work out: 100 hours of cloud streaming would cost about $24. That’s two 50-hour packs at $11.99 each. The catch is the big word at the start of this article. GTA 6 has not been confirmed for Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Microsoft has said it won’t be streamable to PC.

So this is a “what if” piece, built on real prices and clearly labeled guesses. We’ll go through what Cloud Playtime costs, how the math works for a game of this size, and what’s still unknown.

The short version

QuestionAnswer
What does Cloud Playtime cost?$3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25, $11.99 for 50
What would 100 hours cost?About $24 with two 50-hour packs
Is GTA 6 confirmed for Xbox Cloud Gaming? No
Can you stream GTA 6 to PC through Xbox? No, according to Microsoft
Do purchased hours expire? No, they last until used

What Xbox Cloud Playtime actually is

Cloud Playtime is Microsoft’s pay-as-you-go option for Xbox Cloud Gaming. You buy blocks of streaming hours instead of subscribing to Game Pass. Microsoft announced the pricing on October 21 for Xbox Insiders, with a wider rollout planned for November.

PackPriceCost per hour
10 hours$3.99About $0.40
25 hours$7.99About $0.32
50 hours$11.99About $0.24

Hours don’t expire at the end of a month, which is a real difference from Game Pass. Prices are in US dollars and don’t include tax.

The math: what 100 hours would cost

Here’s how 100 hours breaks down depending on which packs you buy:

CombinationTotal hoursCost
Two 50-hour packs100$23.98
Four 25-hour packs100$31.96
Ten 10-hour packs100$39.90

The 50-hour pack is clearly the best value. Two of them get you to 100 hours for just under $24, which is where the “about $24” figure comes from.

What Game Pass includes instead

The pay-as-you-go option arrives alongside a change to Game Pass. Xbox Wire’s announcement says that beginning in November, each plan includes a set number of cloud hours per month:

  • Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
  • Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
  • Game Pass Essential: 5 hours

Previously, cloud gaming on these plans was effectively unlimited. Reports say extra hours can be bought separately, but we haven’t seen a published price for that add-on. Ultimate costs about $23 a month in the US, so 15 included hours sets a ceiling on how much a heavy streamer can play before paying more.

Why GTA 6 streaming isn’t confirmed

On October 6, a report claimed Xbox had secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6. The next day, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball said GTA 6 “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC,” and the original reporter corrected his story. Microsoft didn’t say whether GTA 6 will appear on Xbox Cloud Gaming at all. Rockstar hasn’t commented. Our full write-up of the episode is in our guide to GTA 6 cloud streaming on PC.

Two details matter here:

  • PC is ruled out. If you were hoping Cloud Playtime would be a back door to GTA 6 on a PC, Microsoft’s statement says it won’t be.
  • Other devices are unclear. The statement names PC specifically. It doesn’t spell out which devices would support GTA 6 streaming, if any.

What we still don’t know

Any cost estimate depends on answers nobody has given yet:

  1. Is GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming at all? Not confirmed.
  2. Would you need to own it? If streaming requires buying the $79.99 Standard Edition, your hours would come on top of that price. Our GTA 6 price explainer covers the official figures.
  3. Is it included in Game Pass? There’s no sign of it.
  4. Would Playtime hours work for it? Microsoft hasn’t said which games qualify.

If the answer to the second question is yes, the real cost is the game plus the hours, not the hours alone. Treat any “total cost” number you see as a guess.

A rough sense of scale

Since nobody knows how long a GTA 6 session or campaign will take, here are hypothetical totals using Playtime’s best-value packs. These are illustrations, not predictions of playtime:

Hours streamedCheapest way to buyCost
25One 25-hour pack$7.99
50One 50-hour pack$11.99
100Two 50-hour packs$23.98

For comparison, Kotaku noted that Nvidia’s cloud service offers up to 100 hours a month for $10, but only for PC games you already own. Since GTA 6 has no PC version, that isn’t an option here.

Check these before you buy any hours

If Cloud Playtime reaches you and GTA 6 ever becomes available on it, a few quick checks will save money:

  1. Confirm the game is supported. Hours are only useful for games that run on the service, and the list can change.
  2. Check your device. Microsoft’s PC exclusion applies to GTA 6, so don’t assume a laptop will work.
  3. Test your connection. Streaming an open-world game takes a stable, fast line, and a poor connection wastes hours.
  4. Remember region and tax. Prices here are US dollars before tax, and availability may differ by country.
  5. Avoid unofficial sellers. Only buy hours through Microsoft. Fake “cloud GTA 6” offers are a known scam pattern.

Should you plan around this?

Probably not yet. The only confirmed way to play on November 19 is on a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, and our pre-order guide covers editions and the November 20 bonus deadline. Streaming is a maybe, and a version of it that costs less than owning a console is a bigger maybe. If Microsoft or Rockstar confirms GTA 6 for cloud play, we’ll update this page with real numbers.

Terms you’ll see

  • Cloud Playtime: Microsoft’s name for prepaid streaming hours.
  • Cloud hours or cloud gaming hours: the time allowance included with a Game Pass plan or bought separately.
  • Pay-as-you-go: paying for hours as you need them instead of a monthly plan.
  • Cap: a monthly limit on how much you can stream.

Common questions

How much does 100 hours of Xbox Cloud Playtime cost? About $24, using two 50-hour packs at $11.99 each, before taxes.

Can you play GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming? It hasn’t been confirmed. Microsoft said only that GTA 6 won’t be streaming exclusively or to PC.

Do Cloud Playtime hours expire? No. Purchased hours remain available until you use them.

Does Game Pass include enough hours for GTA 6? Ultimate includes 15 hours a month starting in November, which is limited for a game of this size, though the game’s availability on the service is unconfirmed.

The bottom line

Xbox Cloud Playtime pricing is straightforward: $3.99, $7.99 or $11.99, with 100 hours costing about $24. Whether any of that applies to GTA 6 is still unknown, and Microsoft has closed the door on PC. For now, the safest plan is the one Rockstar has actually confirmed, which is a console on November 19.
